4 Rules for an awesome first date

First dates can be nerve-wracking. Sure, you’re pumped to have a great time with someone you met and clicked with (online or off), but the lead up to the event is often stressful. Before you let your anxiety get the better of you, there are a few simple ways to make sure your next first date is a rocking success.

Stay calm
Easier said than done, we know. But you can keep pre-date stress at bay by doing things that relax you. The calmer you are on your date, the smoother it’ll go. So rather than obsessing over what to wear, what you’re going to say or making a great impression, do something to distract yourself before the big day. Go for a jog, hit the gym, spend the afternoon with a friend or get a mani and take yourself out to lunch. The less you’re thinking about the date, the easier it will be to avoid pre-date anxiety

Dress for success
Of course you want to look good, but before you don your shortest skirt, highest heels or a new pair of boots you have yet to break in, know that comfort should come first. You can still look great and be ready for anything with the right outfit. Stick with classics — dark denim, slouchy sweater and riding boots, shift dress, flats and a cute cardi — things that you feel good in, but that can handle any type of date, whether you’re sipping wine or walking through the park.

Be yourself
There’s no better way to make the best first impression than to be yourself. If you try to be someone you’re not or act in a way that doesn’t feel genuine, you aren’t going to make a lasting connection with the person you’re with. Being nervous is OK and perfectly normal, but try not to let your nerves turn you into a person you’re not.

Have fun

Even if you get to the restaurant and decide this guy really isn’t for you, do your best to have fun. You’re out and you’re dressed up, so you might as well have a good time. If you do get to the restaurant and think “Oh my god, he’s even cuter than I remember,” letting loose (within reason) and having fun will only help enhance the spark.
